Hospitals team up for summer food drive

Over the past 17 years, St. Joseph Hospital and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center have joined efforts in the annual summer food drive that benefits local food pantries. This year the summer food drive began Saturday, June 9 and ends Saturday, July 7.

 

“We’ve started the drive earlier this year in an effort to help carry pantries through the summer months,” said Julie Eckmann of Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.

 

Food pantries receive the most donations around the holidays. Yet, hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation! Demand on food pantries increases about 20 percent during the summer as many families rely on school lunches to help feed their children. Nashua hospitals and local organizations are asking for your help in restocking food pantry shelves.

 

Please donate personal hygiene items, as well as nutritious, non-perishable food products including peanut butter, jelly, pasta, spaghetti sauce, Spaghetti-O’s or other like type products, canned vegetables and fruit, breakfast cereal, macaroni and cheese, canned beef stew, tuna fish, diapers and toilet paper. All items collected will benefit local food pantries.

 

Drop-off sites include Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and its Foundation Medical Partner affiliates, Nashua Center for Healthy Aging, and Downtown Medical Associates; as well as St. Joseph Hospital and its affiliates, Nashua Medical Group, SJ Family Medical Centers in Nashua, Merrimack, Milford, Hudson and SJ Internal Medicine on Riverside Street, Nashua Pediatrics in Nashua and Milford and Merrimack Valley Pediatrics in Nashua. Also accepting donations is OB/GYN Associates of Southern NH, Full Circle Midwifery Care, Milford Medical Center and St. Joseph Home & Hospice Care in Milford.
